Our Short Answer

After researching and comparing Hipp and Enfamil, we would always choose Hipp over Enfamil if we have the chance.

Hipp is organic, which is quite important in early nutrition. Its formulas also have powerful blends of prebiotics and probiotics and the brand has many different types of formulas for different needs.

Hipp also has different formulas like Comfort, AR or HA that cater to different digestive needs.

Enfamil, while being one of the most important brands in the US, does not match up the standards of Organic European Formulas.

The only instance where we would choose an Enfamil formula, is if our kid had CMPA, in which case we would use Enfamil Nutramigen. Most Enfamil formulas contain palm olein and soy oil and many have corn syrup solids. These three ingredients are just not good for babies, or humans.

In summary, if you have the means and your baby does not have Cow’s milk allergy, we would always recommend Hipp.

Brand Reputation

Hipp Reputation

Hipp has been a well-established brand producing organic baby food and formula for over 60 years.

With a focus on environmental and social responsibility, Hipp has earned certifications from various organizations, including the Forest Stewardship Council and Demeter International.

These certifications reflect the company’s commitment to sustainable farming practices and using high-quality, organic ingredients.

In addition to these environmental and social achievements, Hipp’s infant formula has received many positive reviews from parents and professionals.

As a result, it is often cited as a top choice for natural and organic baby products.

Enfamil Reputation

Enfamil has been a widely recognized brand providing baby formula for over a century.

The company is committed to researching infant nutrition and providing formulas that meet the changing needs of babies as they grow.

Enfamil is known for its innovative products, which include formulas tailored to babies with specific dietary needs or health conditions.

While Enfamil does not have the same focus on organic and sustainable farming as Hipp, the company has received a range of certifications, including ISO 9001 and the Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points (HACCP) certification, which reflect its commitment to high-quality manufacturing standards.

Pediatricians often recommend Enfamil, which is widely available in the United States, making it a popular choice for parents seeking a reliable and trustworthy brand.

Nutritional Composition

Nutritional composition is crucial and the most important aspect when comparing formulas.

Hipp Composition

Proteins

Hipp employs nonfat milk and whey protein, which has a protein ratio similar to breast milk (60:40), to give your infant an almost identical substitute for breast milk.

Hipp also has a Comfort and a Hypoallergenic formula, which uses hydrolyzed protein.

Carbohydrates

Lactose is the primary carbohydrate source in Hipp to give infants a familiar and simple-to-digest energy source.

Some Hipp formulas like AR or Comfort have reduced lactose content and add organic starch or maltodextrin.

Fats and oils

Hipp employs organic sunflower, rapeseed oil, and sustainably produced palm oil to give more than 60 distinct fatty acids that act as building blocks, insulators, and energy sources. Hipp also adds DHA and ARA in quantities recommended by the European Commission.

Enfamil Composition

Proteins

Enfamil uses nonfat milk and whey protein concentrate in its conventional formulas, and hydrolyzed protein in its specialty formulas. Enfamil is not organic, which means the milk is sourced from conventional farms.

Carbohydrates

Conventional Enfamil Formulas use non-organic lactose, and specialty formulas use Corn Syrup Solids as an alternative to lactose. This is less desirable than using starches or maltodextrin.

Fats and oils

The formula contains 5.3g of fat per 100 calories (5 fl oz) sourced from edible vegetable oils such as Low Erucic Rapeseed, Palm Olein, Coconut, and Corn.

Non-organic palm olein is much less desirable than organically grown palm oil, as it has been linked with poor calcium absorption.

Probiotics and Prebiotics

Most Enfamil formulas employ a combination of dietary fibers, galactooligosaccharides, and polydextrose, which serve as food for good bacteria to grow and multiply.

A few of their formulas (like Nutramigen) also contain living microorganisms (probiotics), which assist in regular, healthy digestion.

On the other hand, Hipp provides a distinctive fusion of low protein content, prebiotics, probiotics, and organic quality. Galacto-oligosaccharides (GOS), produced from lactose and a naturally occurring part of the oligosaccharides in breast milk, are the prebiotics that Hipp uses.

The natural probiotic L. fermentum hereditum, first isolated from human milk, is also included in the Hipp milk formula.

Due to the company’s emphasis on organic quality, the formulas’ contents must adhere to more significant standards than required by law.

Cost and availability

Enfamil is widely available in stores, while Hipp can only be purchased online. However, online shopping provides access to more options and competitive pricing.

Regarding cost and availability, there are some differences between Hipp and Enfamil.

Hipp formula can generally only be purchased online, which may be less convenient for some parents who prefer to shop in-store. However, buying formulas online may provide access to more options and competitive pricing.

On the other hand, Enfamil formula is widely available in many grocery stores, pharmacies, and big-box retailers, making it easy to find and purchase. Enfamil is also available in many different types and formulations to meet the individual needs of infants, including ready-to-use liquid, concentrate, and powder options.
