Why is it important to give a varied and nutritious breakfast to our toddler?

A nutritious breakfast is essential for toddlers, as it helps fuel their growing bodies and minds.

When a young child skips breakfast or eats unhealthy foods, they may experience a dip in energy and concentration, making it difficult for them to achieve optimal performance in learning and play.

On the other hand, a healthy breakfast can help improve a child’s memory, concentration and overall mood. It can also prevent common problems such as constipation and iron deficiency.

As a parent, it’s important to prioritize a healthy breakfast for your child. While it may be tempting to choose convenient options, such as sugary cereals or packaged foods, they lack the nutrients the growing body needs.

Instead, try incorporating whole grains, protein and healthy fats into your child’s breakfast.

Don’t let busy mornings get in the way of a nutritious breakfast for your child. With a little planning and these easy breakfast ideas for toddlers, you can set your child up for a fruitful day.

  1. Simply mix all the ingredients in a bowl until you have a homogeneous mixture.
  2. Then pour some of the mixture into the pan and wait for it to set.

Ingredients

  • Oatmeal porridge
  • Chia seeds
  • Banana
  • Blueberries

A perfect addition to any child’s diet and an amazing breakfast idea!

Oatmeal is a great food for several reasons: It contains complex carbs, but also protein, minerals and vitamins. It is great to help regulate glucose and cholesterol levels. (See our full recipe here: overnight oats recipe)

Overnight oats are a very convenient toddler breakfast idea since they can be prepared the night before and you have them ready to go the next morning, just store them in the fridge overnight. Our toddler eats them like crazy!

Also, It works well with many other foods. You can also add peanut butter or nut butter if you prefer.

Toddler Breakfast Idea #3: Combination Meal 1 for toddlers. +12 months

Ingredients

  • Steamed apple with almond butter, peanut butter or nut butter.
  • Yogurt with non added sugar cereal
  • Whole wheat toast with mashed avocado
  • Whole wheat toast with crushed tomato and ÂŒ grilled egg

An amazing and nutritious toddler breakfast! Full of healthy polyunsaturated fat

You can add a bit of cheddar cheese to offer a bit more protein.

This might look like a lot and it probably is. However, our toddler eats A LOT and he actually finished everything. If your kid won’t eat as much, you can offer less quantity or may not offer all of it.

It is always better to offer less and have them ask for more than having to throw food out or having your kid feel overwhelmed and refusing to eat.

Ingredients

  • 1 egg
  • 1 mashed banana

  • 1 spoon of pure cocoa powder
  • 4 spoons of oatmeal flour
  • 1 jet of EV olive oil
  • 1 full spoon of plain yogurt

Steps

  1. Blend everything together.
  2. Pour the mix in a small recipient.
  3. 4 minutes in the microwave.

Not as nutritious as overnight oats, but the soft texture is perfect for babies and toddlers to chew and grasp.

If your child is older than 2 years old you can add some chocolate chips for extra flavour, just make sure the chocolate is as black as possible.

Our toddler loves his sponge cakes.

Toddler Breakfast Idea #5: Combination Meal 2 for toddlers. +12 months

Ingredients

  • 1 wheat toast or whole grain toast
  • 1/2 grilled egg or scrambled eggs
  • 1/2 small avocado
  • 1/2 banana slices
  • 1/2 kiwi
  • Some unsweetened apple sponge cake
  • EVOO, for some monounsaturated fat

A fantastic toddler breakfast idea! We love combination meals like this. If your toddler is younger than 14 months, we would recommend offering the banana in thin long slices or banana fingers, since normal slices are considered a choking hazard.

This could be our typical weekend breakfast. Pablo helps us make it (in his own way) You can see the recipe of the sponge cake in our instagram!
